THE POWER OF VIDEO

Real compassion can't happen from a distance. We have to get close- to see and feel and share what the other is experiencing. It requires eye contact, and conversation, where those are possible, and touch, or some other kind of human connection, where they are not. It requires that we be involved at a level beyond the surface.
     This is the power of video, and movies. They give us the ability to be there and engage our senses, to see and feel as if we are a part of what's happening, even thought we're not.

I appreciate video for the way it enlarges my capacity for compassion.
